| Daytime 1* Thursday Ride | 1* |
|---|
Leader:John Stamp |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:Old Mill Hall |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Easy sociable ride of 24-32 km (15-20 miles) at a pace of 14-17km/h (9-11 mph).A 14.5 mile flat trip to Millets for coffee using gravel tracks where possible with a detour to St Luke’s Church in Garford. 30% of route on gravel / hardcore surface. No guarantee we will get there; last section (Garford to Millets) hasn’t been checked by ride leader. (However I've been assured we should be able to ride two abreast) |
||
Report:A nice cool breeze for once, little traffic on roads; made cycling a pleasure.Good coffee at Millets, however for the future it would be advisable to obtain a permit in advance from Millets HQ to travel along the ‘permitted footpath’ from Garforth towards the Farm Shop. Possible to cycle as far as Phoebe Woods but then it’s a walk (say 8mins) to the café via the animal’s enclosures. No bike racks at café and long wait (say 10mins) to secure coffees. St Luke’s Church had scaffold to the bell tower. Av speed whilst cycling 7.5mph. | ||

Riders:Angie FisherBarry Stanton David Bridge David Hollick David Jackson Julie Haynes Paul Wensley Pauline Clark Peter Dalgliesh Roger Postbeschild Steve Swanton Riders = 11 Weather:Report:A mostly bright day with some cloud cover. Much cooler than of late, causing your leader to ride in a long sleeved jersey.Hackpen was challenging, the North Westerly wind not helping. Goodies was heaving when we arrived, but some tables freed up and some sat outside lapping up the sunshine. Seven Barrows was quiet but there is a lot of loose gravel at the foot of Blowingstone Hill. All safely negotiated. After turning on to the Baulking road, the North Westerly became our friend. No mechanicals and a great bunch. Thanks to Steve for sweeping. | ||

Riders:Alan BerryEddie Little James Bosley James Pearson Jane John Jo Little Paul Wensley Sarah James Selene Moquet Simon Atkin Tim Waite Wendy Berry Riders = 12 Weather:Report:We were fortunate to be greeted with a lovely sunny warm summer’s evening for our ride. The gusty winds that we’d experienced over the past few days had completely vanished. A shorter distance of eleven miles for this ride. A nice route which took us up Lark Hill, along the Ridgeway, Old Street and East Ginge descent, then back to Wantage via Ardington and Lockinge. It was nice to have Jo join us on her second ride. It was also good to see Paul back out with us too. Thanks to all for being great company. Many thanks to James for sweeping and to Jane for some fab photos and for secondary leading when required. | ||
