Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:(Updated) We'll have to cheat a bit to get to The Fox Denchworth in time to celebrate Steve's CTC Certificate of Merit. So we'll go up Lark Hill and down on the road into Letcombe Bassett. But it's a small bumpy road so good fun anyway! And, then we can do a couple of bridle/byways followed by a under a mile on the A417 to get us to Denchworth for about 20:00 after 14 miles. If you intend to stop at the pub, bring lights and locks. |

Report:All the big climbs were at the start on this one! After riding over to Charlton (and spotting a pair of Goldfinch), we had to climb Lark Hill (40m), up to the B4494 (40m) and up Middlehill Down (55m). But we were rewarded by great views from the Ridgeway - the air was clear and we could see for miles. We pedalled West against a light breeze, then descended down the road on Smith's Hill into Letcombe Bassett. A bit more road and we travelled the bumpy Green Road - horrible when it's wet, but just bumpy tonight. Then a pleasantly surprising downhill along Cornhill Lane - smoother but with a central rut and some brambles to catch you out. (I got scratched by the brambles, Helen avoided them but got stuck in the rut.) Finally a bit of A417 and in to Denchworth from the Southwest - spotting a tawny owl looking for dinner in a field by the road. We met up with the other 3 rides at The Fox and admired Steve's Certificate of Merit over a beer before heading for home. (Mileage 15 plus 2 back to Grove) | ||
