Report:
After all the rain, bright sunshine, but a quick change of plan in view of the flooding on the roads around the "island villages" of the Vale (-ey = island). So 4 riders headed South instead, through the backstreets of Grove, along the cycletrack to Charlton and then out on route 44 to Lockinge, where we were overtaken by the mudslingers (aka Robin & David).
There was a lot of water about not least on the back road at Betterton and we rode through a few large puddles/small lakes en route to the Ardington turn. We stopped at the top of the hill to enjoy the view before sweeping down to Ardington. On the way down we passed the strange sight of a herd of cattle standing in a small lake in a neighbouring field!
We decided to come back via Lains Barn, so after the steady climb to the A417 X-roads, we enjoyed our second long descent down into the Vale. All about the fields were dotted with ponds.
An enjoyable evening's ride - a warm welcome to Catherine and return to John. We'll head to Charney next week - floods permitting...
Distance:
15.29 km (9.50 mi)
