Oxfordshire Boundary Ride (200 miles) | 3* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:4:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Two hundred miles in 24 hours! Following the Oxfordshire county boundary roughly following the old Oxfordshire Cycleway route in clockwise fashion.A challenging, but do-able ride for anyone who rides regularly or enjoys the longer club rides such as the 100 milers and fancies they can do more. The ride will not be fast, nor will it be a race. The challenge however is to complete the route within 24 hours. The ride should be very enjoyable with the usual group ride camaraderie. There will be plenty of planned stops for natural breaks and food, these are planned to make the ride comfortable enough without wasting time and causing our legs to get stiff etc. The planned stops are roughly every 25 - 35 miles: Burford (Cake Stop, riverside car park) 31m Hook Norton (pub meal, Sun Inn) 53m Banbury (McDonalds 24 hour, rest stop) 80m Cherwell Valley Services (Meal) 98m Bicester (shop stop - 24hr Tescos) 124m Panshill Fishery Cafe nr Murcott (breakfast) 138m Stonot (coffee, The Quince Tree cafe) 164m Wallingford (snack/coffee, if needed) 184m The ride starts at 4:00pm from Old Mill Hall in Grove and ends there the following afternoon. Lights will be essential (we'll be riding in the dark for up to 6 hours) plus the usual tools/ tubes for punctures etc. Please make sure you have the right gear/ clothing to do a 24 hour ride, it will be mid summer with only a few hours of darkness but it can get cold at night. We'll expect to see the sunrise (04:51) somewhere around the 115-mile mark (near Marsh Gibbon). |
