Leader:Adrian West |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Enjoy an easy-paced ride around the local lanes.Distance 25-40 km (16-25 miles) at a pace of 18-21 km/h (11-13 mph). May include easy hills. This week we will try another combination of the roads on offer in the area, including one fairly easy hill of note and lots of fun dcending. Leaving OMH we will make our way through Grove through Wantage and onto the Letcombes. From there we will have a leisurely climb up Hackpen Hill, this climb is the main one of the evening and is fairly easy if you take your time in a low gear. After a short breather at the top of Hackpen hill we then decend swiftly to Sparsholt. Once on the Downs Road we make our way to Kingston Lisle and decend again into the Vale and make our way to Goosey, Denchworth and then back to Grove. |

The group was split in to two with the stronger climbers leading first and the rookies/ weaker climbers followed. I thought it was a good idea to show the second group how easy it can be to climb a hill without your lungs exploding, as many didn't know how and looked upon the hill with fear. We rode up the hill at a slow and easy pace and when we met up with the stronger riders, the rookies were jubilant at their first large hill climbing achievement. After a short break, we decended swiftly to Sparsholt and then decended swiftly again from Kingston Lisle down into the Vale. The rest of the ride was uneventful as we made our way back to Grove. There was the usual riders dropping off to go home etc and no punctures or disasters. A very enjoyable ride and well done to the rookies for their hill climbing achievements. | ||
