Description:This will be a 1.5 - 2 hours ride at a riding pace in excess of 24km/h (15mph). May be hilly.These occasional 4* rides are for athletic riders who can safely ride above the 3* standard. Nice and flat through Denchworth,Fernham and Shrivenham to warm up before the sharp climb up Ashbury Hill and the fast drop to Lambourn where we`ll wait for me; climb out towards the Hackpen decent,wait for me again,Sparsholt and home. We`ll take it easy,share the lead and try to keep together as much as possible aiming at an av.speed of 16.5/17 mph.Come along ,no-one will be dropped of course.About 33 miles. |

There was a confidence wobble with a few at the start when Geoff, Frank, Bryan and Peter Cowan turned up but after a few miles riding together at a good strong pace we were all fine, conditions were perfect, the sun was shining and we had 4 lead out men, happy days.We did do a little experiment with the "leader" at the back and with so many experienced riders this was fine and probably the reason we averaged 18.3 mph. Fernham and Shrivenham were soon dispatched and although we had a traffic light induced standing start at Ashbury Hill no-one had any problems. The descent into Lambourn where we regrouped long enough for Mr Jarvis to puncture, was quick. Half hadn't realised and headed off out but it was great to see that everyone had waited at the bottom of Hackpen. All we had to do then was blast back to Grove. Thanks to everyone for coming, John "the new diesel" Talbot for keeping count and a warm 4* welcome to Bryan and Peter. Mssrs Walters, Jones, Talboys and Ms Boyce next time please! | ||
