Oxfordshire County Boundary (200-mile) Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:3:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Update 4/7 - we are currently 7. If you fancy joining us, please let Steve know asap. NOTE change to start time to 3:30pm to give us more slack to make the Pear Tree for dinner. The big one! A complete circuit of the Oxfordshire county boundary, roughly following the old Oxfordshire Cycleway, taking about 24 hours. The culmination of the Oxfordshire couch-to-200 miles series of rides. It's a varied route, setting off through the Vale, crossing the Thames valley and then the Cotswolds, before the rolling country of the ironstone country on our first century. After a flatter morning ride crossing eastern Oxforshire and Otmoor, we scale the Chilterns after breakfast before dropping to Streatley and a final push home across the vale. As on the recent 100 and 125-mile rides we will ride at a steady pace with regular stops to eat, drink and recover. It is a hilly route and we will regroup and rest when we need to. Below is the revised route, with planned stops, every 20-30 miles or so: Burford (Cake Stop, riverside car park) 31m Hook Norton (pub meal, Pear Tree Inn) 54m Banbury (McDonalds 24 hour, rest stop/meal) 81m Cherwell Valley Services (Meal) 100m Bicester (24hr Service station - coffee and rest) 124m Thame (Spreadeagle, breakfast) 149m Streatley (Boat Cafe, lunch) 177m We'll cycle about 50 miles (4 hrs or so) in the dark, so good lights that will last through the night are required. It will be warm during the days but it's looking perfect for night riding, with temperatures dropping only to the mid-teens early morning. No rain and light breezes that may follow us round Please ensure you have the gear/clothing/sun cream/emergency rations for 24 hours of riding. There is no organised back-up on this ride. We'll hope to see the sunrise (04:54) somewhere around Mixbury at 110 miles. |
