May be hilly. ***LOWER BRIDGING RIDE***This is the second of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the lower end of the pace range. So a meander along the foothills of the Downs: few small hills, but nothing compared to recent weeks. Taking the East Challow route to Letcombe, allows us to test the newly tarmacked Windmill Hill descent and starting the return at Uffington and coming back via Hatford and Charney Bassett. I'll be stopping at the pub, but there is generally some returning to Grove. Secondary ride leader will be confirmed later Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride. |

Riders:Chris BaileyDavid Talboys James Bosley Katherine Boyce Sharon Bedford Yvonne Bird Riders = 6 Weather:Report:So the wind had blown and the rain fallen most of the day. Much toing and froing between ride leaders and as 2 and 3 stars don't go fast enough to be dangerous on water strewn roads, the decision was to go ahead with the rides. And boy did we think we had made the right decision as the sun shone in the early evening. I even considered whether or not I needed sun cream . With 6 of us, we didn't join forces with the 1&2 star combined rides, instead opting to go ahead with the planned ride.Bit of a rain shower as we left Grove to head towards Challow, nothing much. The real rain started as we left Letcombe Regis - having come down a partially mended, gravel strewn Windmill Hill. The rain got more and more forceful. Monsoon like. When we got to Childrey, I paused to ensure that no one objected to cutting the ride short and going straight to the pub using the shortest bit of the A417 possible. We fully expected the 2* ride to be waiting for us but by some miracle they did their full ride with barely a drop of rain :0 . Even the pub were surprised by the number of cyclists who had turned out, probably a good job that not all of us were dripping wet! | ||
