New Forest Autumn Colours | 3* |
---|
Leader:Jo Little |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:Lyndhurst |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. An all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. The ride will start in Lyndhurst, travelling along Bolderwood and Rhinefield ornamental drives before the first cafe stop at Sway (20 miles). We then go through heathland and villages before the second stop at Bucklers Hard (36 miles). This was an 18th century shipbuilding village on Beaulieu river and still retains much of its original charm. Then its through Beaulieu before returning to Lyndhurst. 48 miles in total, which should allow time to appreciate the forest before returning home in the light. Parking and the starting point is at Boltons Bench, Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst, SO43 7DA. This has proven safe and reliable in the past. I am limiting this ride to 12 people as the roads are narrow and can be busy in places. We will ride in 2 groups a short distance apart, so will be able to meet at cafe stops and view points. Please book early if you wish to guarantee a place. |

Riders:Barry StantonChris Bailey Eddie Little Jo Little John Tranter Lisa Footner Paul Smith Riders = 7 Weather:![]() ![]() Report:We left Wantage in the pouring rain but arrived in Lyndhurst to warmth and sunshine. The forest looked amazing, with the leaves changing and the sun shining between the trees. We were lucky enough to see a stag with a small herd of deer, as well as donkeys, ponies and a tiny foal. The first cafe stop, The Forest Deli at Sway, was fantastic and will definitely be used again. We also visited Bucklers Hard, an old shipbuilding village on the Beaulieu river, which was interesting to walk around. Overall, the route was good, with most of the climbing in the first half.Thank you to Paul for taking the headwind for me on a couple of occasions and also for finding Barry when he took the wrong turning. Thank you to everyone for being such a great group to cycle with. It was an excellent day out. | ||
