May Bank Holiday Special 3*
Leader:
Sharon Bedford
Start Time:
9:00 am
Start Location:
The Beacon
Description:
Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Riding pace of 11-14mph. Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing likely.

A trip to Hungerford - taking a slightly longer route using some of my favourite roads.

Lack of cafes open on BHM means we have been forced into just one stop (Hungerford) at 45km. Total ride is 83k so slightly shorter second half. Do bring a snack if you feel 45k is a little too far - and we will stop somewhere for 10 minutes for a short rest.

As ever when heading south, a hilly ride - but hopefully the views will make it worthwhile.

Report:
Well it was always going to be a tough ride with the number of hills. But I was wasn't also bargaining on a fierce head wind / cross wind!

Despite the difficulty (as well as a spell of rain) we enjoyed riding a number of roads we use less often.

Eliane, Hungerford was surprisingly quiet for a Bank Holiday which meant we could sit inside - we needed to warm up after getting wet.

We were rewarded with an hour or so of sunshine after we left Hungerford - which was lucky as we had to wait about 10-15 minutes at the March Benham level crossing. It must have been stuck as they eventually opened without a train going through.

Thanks to the group for their company.
