|---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Out to Childrey via Stockham and East Challow, returning via Goosey (12 miles). There will be optional stop at the Fox in Denchworth towards the end of the ride. Lights required as the evenings are drawing in and if stopping at the pub for a drink or a meal.NB: 2*'s are running a bridge ride at a slower pace than normal to give 1* riders the opportunity to try out a 2* ride. Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Our leisurely and sociable Tuesday evening 1* rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of 10-15 miles (16-24km) at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph (13-16kph), following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Riders:Alison DanielsAngie Fisher Anke Otto Carin Tranter Emma Bowen John Leggott John Stamp Julie Haynes Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Tim Waite Riders = 11 Weather:Report:Our largest turnout for a Tuesday 1* of the season, with 10 riders setting off from Old Mill Hall, on a lovely evening for a ride. A warm welcome to Emma on her first outing with the club.I had planned an unusual route through Old Grove for a change. Unfortunately, things didn't go smoothly when a group split due to traffic on Main St. led to the second half of the ride not following the first half down Vale Avenue... Eventually reunited, we did then follow the back roads as planned, joined the cycleway towards Wantage and by Lidl turned off down the cyclepath to Mably Way and Elizabeth Drive. This was pleasingly unfamiliar (from a leader's point of view) to most of the group. Eventually emerging by the Denchworth Road roadworks, we continued on the cyclepath up to St Marys Way. After Stockham and a short stretch on the A417, our only hill of the evening was the climb through East Challow. All climbed with aplomb. After a short break to catch our breath by St. Nicholas school, we continued along the bridleway to Childrey, enjoying the panoramic views across the Vale and up to the Downs. In Childrey we passed the dried out pond continuing on to the church. We stopped here for a longer break and natter, admiring the view north from the churchyard. After a group picture, we resumed, enjoying the long, gentle descent into the Vale before briefly rejoining the A417 and returning to Denchworth via Goosey. 7 of us stopped at the Fox. Anke joined us for the meal and cycled back with several of us to Grove at the end. Thanks to Steve for sweeping and to everyone for your good company on an enjoyable ride to lead. | ||
