Off-road Morning Ride 2*
Leader:
Richard Pethybridge
Start Time:
10:00 am
Start Location:
Top of Ashbury Hill
Description:
Twice monthly off-road ride for those who like their rides bumpy and (sometimes) muddy. These will be on the second Saturday afternoons and 4th Sunday mornings.

The rides will be about 20 miles, mostly off-road, and aim to finish in time for a late lunch (whether together or heading for home). We adjust the ride to suit the riders and the weather, but in general the terrain will be rough, so a mountain-bike in good condition and with knobbly tyres is recommended.

This ride explores the Ridgeway and the Lambourn Downs. 34.5km and 380m of climbing make it suitable for just about anyone who has off-roaded before. Nothing particularly technical, and the option of a coffee stop in Lambourn as we pass through.

Grid ref of start is SU 273 843, the car park at the top of Ashbury Hill on the B4000 from Lambourn.
Riders:
David Green
Richard Pethybridge
Robin Tucker

Weather:
sunny intervalssunny
Report:
A really nice loop from the top of Ashbury Hill in a clockwise direction via Lambourn. Some paths were a little overgrown but the trails were generally in a very good condition. Coffee and refreshments were enjoyed at the Lambourn Cafe mid-ride, an unusual bonus for an off road ride. A special welcome to two new riders, David Green and Stephanie de Chassy. They both did really well coping with some of the grass covered ruts!
Distance:
31.10 km (19.32 mi)
