| Half day ride to Coate Water Country Park | 3* |
|---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:With the weather on the south coast predicted as being too stormy for the annual club circumvention of the Isle of Wight, this is a local alternative - aiming for a similar level of excitement and adventure and therefore heading for ... Swindon. To be more precise, the lovely village of Chiseldon, the helter-skelter footbridge over the M4 and the very scenic Coate Water Country Park. We have an early start so we can hopefully beat the storm which will be moving up from the Isle of Wight and I am planning a cafe stop at the Three Trees Cafe in Chisledon.48 miles with a few short cut options if we need them. |

Riders:Chris BaileyJo Little John Tranter Richard Kidd Roger Postbeschild Sharon Bedford Riders = 6 Weather:Report:Having postponed the Isle of Wight ride due to strong winds and rain, we decided to compensate with some of the best parts of Swindon. A nice group coped well with the headwind out to Chiseldon and the main climbing challenge of Fox Hill. The reward was a really good coffee stop at the Three Trees Farm Shop - great service and really nice food and drink. From there we enjoyed the NCN45 old railway route down to the Coate Water Country Park, with the highlight being the bonkers helter-skelter bridge over the M4. After admiring the art deco diving board, we then enjoyed the traffic free Day House Lane out of Swindon and back into the Vale. At this point we really began to feel the benefit of the tailwind, just as well as we were conscious of racing the coming storm back to Grove. But all went well and we were home in time for a late lunch. Thanks to all for a thoroughly enjoyable ride, | ||
