Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:East again! Out through Charlton, then taking Route 44 to Lockinge and Betterton before "up over the hill" and down to Ardington (if weather and energy permit, we can do the Lockinge/Betterton loop a second time). Then return (up over another "small" hill) via Lains Barn.Total of around 9 miles (or 13 with the extra loop) Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

We were soon out via Wantage and on to the Sustrans Route 44 an down to Lockinge, where we had a nice relaxed break by the statue of Best Mate (for those horse racing buffs). Shortly after that we tackled the main hill of the ride - a short but sharp climb at Betterton. This rewarded by another quick stop, before whizzing down the nice long hill to Ardington. The option of a second circuit - back up to Lockinge an round - was eschewed, in favour of keeping it "chilled" on such a glorious evening. The group split nicely at various stages into two, to tackle the narrow or busy bits, to keep the motorists happy. Then it was all rounded off with the nice roll down past Lains Barn and home. Well done to all, particularly Owen and Lewis who kept pace without any problem whatsoever! Thanks to Steve S for sweeping and to Martyn for group "splitting" duties! | ||
