At the top we bade farewell to Jan Sweet who put in a valiant effort, but on discovering that her computer was calibrated to km and not miles, meaning that yesterday she managed 12km, and not 12 miles she originally thought, decided that 60km might be a few too many! The rain continued as we rollercoastered our way over to Chieveley via Brightwalton and Peasemore, only interrupted by Richard's obscure phone conversations about where he'd hidden the mushrooms. Finally it was downhill all the way to the very welcome tea stop, in a lovely warm and dry coffee shop at Hillers Garden Centre in Hermitage. Further rollercoasters followed to Boxford via Curridge and Winterbourne, with a couple of long drags taking us up to the B4494 via Chaddleworth for a grin-inducing descent back to Grove arriving at 5:30. The stats for the ride are: Elapsed time 4:14:41 Distance 63.0 km Ascent 720m Average speed 21.4 km/h Maximum speed 73.1 km/h Well done to everyone, and thanks Sid for the photo! | ||
