3* Half Day Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Sharon Bedford |
Start Time:9:15 am |
Start Location:Beacon Car Park |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Not sure whether you should plan a ride around a cafe ….. but why not? I have been wanting to go back to Tray's Cafe in Hungerford for quite a while now so a Saturday Ride gives that opportunity. Slightly longer than a normal half day ride - 65k with hills - but hopefully some lovely scenery along the way. |

Report:The weather was much nicer than forecast and we managed a dry ride to Hungerford and back. We even commented it felt like spring when the sun came out.The roads were mostly dry - although we had to be careful on the minor routes due to gravel and other debris - actually having to get off and push on a short section above Eastbury. Tray's Cafe was a little busy - but it had the warm and friendly welcome I had remembered and the cakes, (cheese scones and apple crumble muffins) got a big thumbs up. A hilly ride but everyone coped well and there was lots of friendly chatter along the way. Thanks for being a great group to lead. | ||

Leader:Stephanie Haddrell |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A 38mile Ride out to Root One for coffee, one of my favourite local Garden Centres. Lovely gift shop and superb plants with specialist advisers, and a great cafe, because 2* rides are all about the Cake!We are heading out Ardington and the cycle path to Milton, skirting around Chiltern and taking cycle paths through Didcot before tackling Sires Hill and making our way to Root one for coffee and cake/Brunch. Once suitably refreshed we will head up to Wittenham clumps, this being the final climb of the day as the return route is in the Vale via Appleford, Drayton and the Hanneys. A slightly Longer half day ride return expected around 1.30pm Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months. |

Report:Well it had been a difficult week with bike and technical problems but both were resolved( thanks Roger!) and a ride out with friends was just the ticket! We headed out to Lockinge and onto the cycleway to Harwell with a rather challenging head wind which continued for most of the morning. We road on to Upton and then along the cycle path to Didcot lovely to be off road although the path was busy with cyclists dogwalkers and horses! Arriving in Didcot we navigated the plethora of cycle paths before joining the road, up sires Hill and then onto Wallingford. It was a relief to be out of the wind and to refuel with some hot food. The way back was to be less challenging with a tail wind, having got the hills out of the way immediately after lunch all was fine and dandy. ... or so I thought as I admired the views and the purpose built mountain bike track in the woods coming out of Long Wittenham, It hit me literally...a bollard! Thankfully, apart form a few bruises and feeling very foolish all was well. Thank goodness for a tail wind for the return journey and good friends! We all made it back safely via Drayton Steventon and Hanney to Costa. | ||
