Tuesday Evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Kingston Bagpuize, at 16 miles our longest 1* evening ride of the season taking advantage of long midsummer days. Out via the Hanney Lane track over the railway to West Hanney then on to Fyfield Wick. There's a nice gentle descent from Southmoor before we return via Charney Bassett. Please let me know if you are planning to come. Our leisurely and sociable Tuesday evening 1* rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of 10-15 miles (16-24km) at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph (13-16kph), following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Report:Another glorious evening for a ride, enjoyed by a select group of 3 of us on the 1* outing. To my surprise, there was a mismatch between the mapped route (by road to West Hanney via Denchworth) and the description (by track via the grain store), which was the way we followed. The route through Kingston Bagpuize business park and the path through to Rectory Lane were new to my companions. It brought us out by the back entrance to Kingston Bagpuize House and we stopped in the shade further up the road opposite the house. After a rest, we carried on to the A415 and through KB to Southmoor before turning south for the lovely gentle descent on Winter lane. Right into Sheephouse Lane and then left through Charney Bassett and on to Denchworth, we were back in Grove around 8:15. Thanks both for an enjoyably mellow ride. | ||
