Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:9:45 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Sociable ride of 24-40 km (15-25 miles) at a pace of 18-20km/h (11-13 mph).A mostly gravel route to Wantage, then along the Icknield Way to Harwell Campus and Upton via a very helpful Quiet Lane. We use the glorious old railway embankment to get to the heart of Didcot and then cunning paths to the Wittenhams and the Thames before retracing our steps with a cafe stop at the Snowberry Cafe (ex-Grocer Chef). Some slightly rough sections so gravel/touring tyres recommended. Road tyres will be OK. |

As it turned out - a lot were! The perfect late summer weather probably helped, but it was amazing to set off with 12 riders, and a warm welcome to Tina back riding with us after a few years gap. All went well, except for Tina's puncture just as we approached Didcot. Thanks to Peter for helping out with what must been an F1 pit stop of a repair as they managed to catch us up later in the ride. A slight navigational error meant we did the Ladygrove Loop the wrong way around, and the track out from Didcot to the Wiitenhams was very rough in places but overall it was a fun ride. Although we stopped earlier than planned for a cafe break at Harwell Campus, next time I will look for a cafe near halfway. Thanks to all for joining me on an adventurous but fun ride. | ||
