We set off from the garden centre down towards Paley Street and then onto Windsor, where we skirted round the town centre. We followed the route all the way down to Runnymede (where the Magna Carta was signed for all you history fans) where we stopped at the country park for a coffee. After the pitstop, we then went onto Staines and Hampton Court via some fantastic back roads along the Thames. Plenty of cyclists on the route in the other direction nodded or waved hello.Hampton Court was a real treat with views of the palace and the gardens from the cycle path that we were using. The cycle path took us all the way along the Thames to Kingston on Thames where we stopped for lunch. After sandwiches and pasties on the riverside, we headed back via Chertsey and Weybridge and then up the side of Great Windsor park where we stopped for a quick rest/drink. As legs were getting tired at this point (and people getting a bit hot!), we carried on back to Twyford. Calls for ice-cream stops were politely ignored as we started passing signs for Twyford telling us that it was only 6 miles to go. All in all a fantastic day of cycling, helped out a lot by the wonderful weather and some great company. Just over 65 miles and we finished at 4.30pm. Marvellous. | ||
