Report:Four of us started on a very cold Sunday morning, having already had to deal with ice and a bird strike to the bike on the roofrack, which left bits of bird splattered over my ner bike! We decided not to wait for Steve (which was just as well) and we planned to meet Sue in Lambourne. It was so cold and damp that ice formed on our brake levers and cables, and in Jans' hair! We met Sue in Lambourne as she wanted the ride, just didn't want to go to Newbury.Steve, meanwhile, turned up ten minutes late and cycled furiously to catch us. He probably would have, except that a split tyre and three tubes later convinced him to call home for recovery. We did try phoning him a couple of times, letting it ring just long enough for him to stop the bike and rummage for the phone befor we hung up! Spring hill was a serious challenge, I made it up but Sue passed me whilst pushing. Just before lunch we hit floods, luckily not as deep as those experienced earlier this year, and the feet dried out in the pub. Sue left us after the climb up Coombe Gibbet, we the had a fast downhill to Newbury whilst she had more climbs to Lambourne! We arived around 3:30, about 7 hours in all, 30 minutes up on last year.
