Saturday afternoon ride from Grove 3*
Leader:
David Bridge
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Using John's route we couldn't do last time due to the weather
A hilly, winter warmer of a ride. From Grove to Wantage, up Chain Hill and then left on the rollercoaster road to Ilsley. Then south through Beedon to Chievely. Then over the "Winterbourne Alp" to Boxford. Then back up to Brightwalton. Then across near Fawley and back to Wantage via the big descent of Court Hill and Letcombe Regis. Possible tea stop at Sainsburys at the end, depending on timing and weather. 2,000ft of climbing in around 38 miles makes this a good test.
Riders:
Adrian West
Chris Walters
David Bridge
Frank Schroer
Jamie Worth
Neil Mowforth
Riders = 6
Report:
The Shefford contingent of Chris and Adrian set out to meet the rest of the riders near Farnborough, but the ride leader had to bail at the top of Chain Hill for a) not maintaining his bike well over the winter and b) not maintaining himself well over the winter. Get well soon David (and bike!).

The smaller group headed off along the planned route through the Ilsleys and Stanmore, deviating on a slightly longer detour on billiard-table-smooth lanes through Hermitage and Curridge, and then again via Chaddleworth after having braved the Boxford Alps. We did very well on what was actually quite a hard little ride... but where was everyone else?

Distance:
60.00 km (37.28 mi)
