Tuesday Evening 3* Ride 3*
Leader:
John Tranter
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Given the amount of daylight and all that, it would be almost rude not to go a similiar way to the 2* ride and conquer White Horse Hill this evening. We will take a slightly longer and slightly hillier route there via the Letcombes and Sparsholt, but will also return on the usual flat route through the Vale. About 24 miles.
Riders:
Adrian West
Andrew Johnson
Bob Wyatt
Frank Schroer
Jenny Williamson
John Talbot
John Tranter
Nick Dunton
Paul Jarvis
Philip Thornton-Evison
Sarah Shackleton
Riders = 11
Report:
A good group, augmented by Frank meeting us in Wantage and Bob solo-ing out to Uffington. The great White Horse Hill was approached from Uffington village, thus enabling maximum pain and effort. I have to say that the group conquered the great hill with some ease and I was highly impressed. The honourable exception was Philip, honourable given that his reason for having a rest halfway up was that he had broken his chain with the sheer power of his climbing technique (I think that's what he said). Grateful thanks to Chris for being on hand from the 2* group to do repairs. A great descent and a good blast back through the Vale. Thanks to all!
Distance:
40.23 km (25.00 mi)
