Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:An easier ride with some easy-off-road this evening as we head to Childrey by way of the canal towpath and a track from East Challow. We'll return via Goosey and there will be the opportunity to stop for a drink at the Fox in Denchworth (celebrating the CTC Certificate of Merit recently awarded to Steve), on the way back, meeting up with riders from the other groups. We will ride two sections of the A417 this evening, climbing through East Challow and between Challow station and Goosey, both requiring right-hand turns. These rides are designed to be sociable and leisurely at a riding pace of about 10 miles per hour, suitable for newcomers to cycling, irregular cyclists and families and for those who just fancy a gentle ride . We'll stop to admire the scenery and anything that takes our eye, and no-one will be left behind. All are welcome although U-13s should be accompanied by a responsible adult . |

Riders:Barbara LambersCamilla Romaine Chloe Tucker Kerry Tucker Lorna Swanton Nick Tucker Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Val Smith Riders = 9 Report:A most enjoyable evening ride and pub stop. With 9 riders, this was our largest group of the season; a warm welcome to Nick and Val and good to have Barbara out again too.Following the rain at the weekend, we did not take the old canal towpath but instead continued on the track past Crown, Cork & Seal up into Stockham and continued onto East Challow on the main road. After a brief rest to catch our breath at the start of the track, we continued on to Childrey, enjoying the clear views across the vale in the evening sunshine. Everyone enjoyed the descent and run-out from Childrey to the A417, and after a few hundred yards of main road, it was back onto the country lane into Goosey. We stopped for a rest in the middle of Goosey Green to admire the meadows. There Peter Burgess of Abingdon Freewheelers caught up with us and stopped to say hello. We arrived at the Fox just before 8 and the 3* group. Most stayed for a sociable drink, and to join me in celebrating my award of a Certificate of Merit. Thanks to all for an enjoyable ride and a convivial evening. Steve | ||
