Weekend 10 Mile Club | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:11:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Following the success of our 10-mile club rides on Tuesday evenings over the summer, this is the first of occasional weekend rides over the Autumn and Winter seasons with the same formula - a sociable and leisurely ride of about 10 miles at a speed of about 10 mph.Given good weather, we'll head towards Garford, a flat ride of about 14 miles. We'll go out via Denchworth and Lyford and back via West Hanney. These rides are intended to be suitable for newcomers to cycling, irregular cyclists and families and for those who just fancy a gentle ride or want to keep the pedals turning occasionally during the cooler months. We'll stop to admire the scenery and anything that takes our eye, and no-one will be left behind. All are welcome although U-13s should be accompanied by a responsible adult . |

Report:6 riders on our first weekend 10-mile club ride. It was a typical autumn day of short sharp blustery showers interspersed with periods of beautiful sunshine. We could see dark clouds looming to the west as we gathered. Fortunately, the heavens opened before we had set off (rather than 5 minutes later), and we waited for the worst to pass, huddled under the porch to OMH. Once the rain relented, we headed out towards a promising patch of blue sky...As the wind had dropped, we decided to ride the route as planned, so from Denchworth we continued to Lyford, turned right, across the cross-roads with Winter Lane and on to Garford. The next shower caught us just outside the village. We stopped by the village hall where, sadly, we were too early for the teas and cakes advertised from 3:30-5:30pm. [A possibility for future Saturday afternoon rides.] It continued to rain, and after a 5 minute break, we decided to head back ( into the wind and rain) to stop us getting cold. Fortunately, we could see another patch of blue to the south west and the sun came out as we turned left into Winter Lane tand headed owards West Hanney. David left us for lunch in the Plough and the remaining five continued back to Denchworth and Grove. We could see the next shower approaching from the west, but we managed to get back in the sunshine at about 1pm. A promising start for easy Saturday morning rides – thanks to all for coming. I’ll try to schedule another in October. The next easy weekend ride will be a ride to tea at Q-gardens, Milton Hill on October 2nd. Steve | ||
