Off-road Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Off-roading in the dark is an experience you must try for your cycling life to be complete! Knobbly tyres and lights required.About 15 miles up to the Ridgeway and back down again. Sometimes, by agreement on the night, we might go a bit further. Bright lights are required for off-road riding in the dark, and a rear light for getting home. I have 2 spare ones that I can lend so you can see if you like it before buying your own. Contact me so I know to bring them. Dark, cold and wet – we'll ride in any 2. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |

Report:Our first 'Autumn season' ride. It was a bit odd arriving at OMH and not finding a large crowd of cyclists eager for the off! But three of us were there, the weather was dry, and we had a great ride.We went up to the Ridgeway via Betterton (or Stony track as Amanda calls it). We arrived at the top just as the sun was setting, and seeing some hares in a field. Then, for the first time we went down the back of the Ridgeway on a sweeping farm track. That of course means a second climb, in this case "Ice Valley", a long steady grassy climb. Then it was West a little, diagonally down through a woody area and down Goddards Brook (aka Apples - after one of the hazards). By this time it was getting dark and our lights came on. Back down Crab Hill toward Grove and it was properly dark, but it didn't slow us a bit - a proper adrenaline rush! I've had a couple of votes for Wednesdays (instead of Tuesdays) now, so will keep this under review - let me know if you have a preference. Votes will be weighted according to attendance! | ||
