Saturday afternoon ride from Grove 3*
Leader:
Iain Kent
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Out to Eynsham via Charney Bassett, Appleton, Cumnor and Farmoor reservoir. Then turning West to have a coffee stop at Aston Pottery. Returning through Buckland and Charney Bassett. 39 miles on mostly flat roads with an average speed of approx 14-15mph depending on the group and weather! Lights will be needed. Let's hope the snow stays away this week!

Update: Looks like the snow is set to start any time after 3pm tommorow so will probably do a shortened version taking a more direct route up to Aston. We can warm up there if needed or just head straight back which would be 28 miles in all. New route would be:

Report:
Considering the day started with -9 degrees in Wantage this morning, we were grateful for the +2 degrees of warmth we experienced this afternoon! It turned out to be a good idea to have taken the short cut as the first flurries of snow arrived just as we were approaching Aston at about 2pm. We decided to miss the coffee stop and get back before the weather worsened. Apart from the cold, conditions were actually quite good and I think we were all pleased to have made the most of the 'weather window' and clocked up 30 miles before the snow came.

Distance:
48.28 km (30.00 mi)
