Saturday afternoon ride from Grove | 2* |
---|
Leader:David Smith |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:At 65 km (40 miles), a little longer than the usual 2*, we are heading out to the cafe at Cotswold Woollen Weavers (http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/town/plaza/hk67/visitor.htm).The ride will be taken at 2* pace. We leave Grove via the ubiquitous Denchworth route, before heading towards Uffington & Fernhan. We then skirt Faringdon and head on towards Coleshill & Lechlade. The tea stop is in the village of Filkins at about 38 km in to the ride. After much deserved refreshment we head back via Bampton, Buckland, Gainfield, Charney Basset & (yet again) Denchworth. There is some climbing up to and beyond Faringdon, but that is familiar 2* territory and on the return is the long drag up towards Buckland, but that's about it. Please note the ride may finish around 17:30 due to the greater distance so please take that into consideration if you need to be back in Grove by a particular time. |

It was quite windy on the way out to Uffington with one very heavy shower on the way. We made good progress along some very quiet roads to the tea stop at the Cotswold Wool Centre in Filkins, I’m told the cream teas were to die for! We raced the showers from Filkins to Bampton and had a dry and very pleasant ride back to Grove via Buckland. | ||
