Riders:Chris WaltersDavid Yearley Jasmine Talbot John Talbot Michael Tayler Mila Yearley Paul Watson Richard Preece Tracey Talbot Riders = 9 Weather:Report:Despite a little panic at the start when the advertised garden centre no longer wanted our company (despite agreeing it the day before), we found the nearby Hare Hatch Sheeplands garden centre to be very welcoming to cyclists, and well worth a visit!Setting off then, with a few 100km virgins in our midst, we made good time to the cafe at Runnymede, and even saw off the nasty and aggressive drivers on the gyratory at Old Windsor. After that, the urban sprawl hotted up, through Staines and down alongside the Thames at Laleham, before heading past the delightful sewage works (and their attendant midge clouds) just before Bushey Park, where the deer roamed freely. The trip round the back of Hampton Court and into Kingston took us to lunch time, and we had the choice of many things including zebra, ostrich, Bratwurst, Mediterranean fayre and the obligatory Greggs. On our way again through built up areas, we had a bit of a communication error when the Talbots managed to get to the front of the group and the rest of the group thought they'd gone the wrong way, and hence waited for them... in the meantime, the Talbots were creating a huge breakaway. Comms restored, the peloton gave chase through Chertsey and eventually reeled in the breakaway at Virginia Water. The rest of the trip was uneventful, save for missing the cafe closing time at the end of the ride. Well done to everyone who completed their first metric century - it was a great day to do it! | ||
