Riders:David BrownDavid Yearley Robin Tucker Riders = 3 Weather:Report:Raining all day, but it stopped just in time for the rides. On the road, it dried quickly, but of course the off-road trails stayed wet enough to give us a nice spattering of mud.The 3 of us out tonight were keen to stretch ourselves a bit further this week, and it turned into a mini-epic. We set off over Crab Hill then up Goddards Brook. Then along the Ridgeway east and off the back down 'ice valley' (no ice, lots of puddles). The wet coating on dry soil made it noticeably slippery. Then over the road and up next next hill (Hernehill). Through the woods - bluebells now being overwhelmed by greener vegetation. And left at 'High Robins' - that's what it says on my map! - and down a wonderfully slippery trail through the woods. I think each of us slipped to the point of putting a foot down along here. When we got to the next descent (down to the road mid-way between the Ilsleys) we were going decidedly gingerly. Then is was the last major climb, back up to the Ridgeway and we decided we needed to make it a triplet of slippy descents so we went under the A34 and turned left eventually going by Prospect Farm, then Chilton and picking up the Sustrans path through Harwell. (The diversion round Harwell has now been lifted). When we got back to Grove, our computers were saying 25 miles, our legs were saying 'that's enough' and our stomachs were saying 'FEED ME!'
Distance:40.23 km (25.00 mi)
