10 Mile Club 1* | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:The Hanney Explorer. Tonight we'll head out to villages of West and East Hanney and if the weather has been dry will use some bridleways and tracks back to Denchworth. 12 miles. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. Newcomers and returnees to cycling, and accompanied children very welcome. |

What's more there were 8 takers for the 1* ride, almost as many as on the other 3 riders together! A warm welcome to Mandy and also to Louis' son Henry.A change of plan this evening given the weather (we'll save the off-road for a nicer evening). We cycled out to Charney Bassett by way of Denchworth and Asti stud. Everyone was doing well and the weather seemed to be brightening up, so we agreed to extend; instead of returning via Lyford, we carried on past Lyford to the Hanney road and came back via West Hanney. It had seemed to be brightening up, but as we passed Lyford we could see black clouds looming in the distance and it became increasingly gloomy. Fortunately, the rain held off until we were nearly back to Denchworth and it remained fairly light back to Grove. But it did mean that we kept moving slightly more than we normally would on a 10-mile club ride. Back in Grove just after 8pm, after satisfyingly defying the odds. Thanks everyone for coming along. | ||
