Description:Long, hilly, quick - or any combination! - 35-45kmThere is a lovely hill going south out of Wantage that I thought we might tackle: Chain Hill. For those not familiar with it, it comprises four ascents with gentle breathers in-between. We will then turn right at Farnborough Copse, go past Nine Acre Wood and right again to join the road back to Wantage. We will go on The Up before the Down and what a down: Court Hill to Letcombe. We will take in one last hill, Holborn Hill, then we will weave into the flat open spaces of the Vale as we loop back to Grove. |

The views were breathtaking with warm summer airs around us. As we descended towards Nine Acre Wood - a puncture. Then, shortly after Nine Acre Wood, another puncture! "Press on", said Andy, so we dropped two riders. "Meet up at the bottom of Court Hill", I said. Obviously not loudly enough and another enthusiast raced off on his own. A couple left us at this point too. At the top of Holborn Hill several riders decided to ride on through Childrey and Denchworth as originally planned, while the remainder of us took the B4507 back to Grove. A couple departed for home. In all, of the sixteen who started out at 6:30, five made it back together by 8:30! An attritional ride. | ||
