We rolled gently into the Letcombes before our first hill - Holburn and then took Hackpen in our stride. We paused at the top before zooming down the Sparsholt Drop. After a brief run along the B road we turned into Blowingstone, taking care on the gravel strewn lower slopes. This is always a tough hill, but we regrouped quite quickly at the top and rolled down towards Lambourn. As we rode up the B4001 to Sparsholt we could see the sun setting to our left. So at the top we made sure that our lights were on before descending swiftly downhill. We then wiggled past the Challow cricket ground and back round Wantage to return to Grove by 8:20. A satisfying hilly ride completed at an average speed of 13 mph without mechanicals, punctures or alarms. | ||
