---|
Leader:David Brown |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any 2. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather. |

Report:Only two of us tonight, so took the opportunity to try out a few rarely ridden tracks to see what state they were in.We routed up to the Ridgeway via Lark Hill, then along the B4494 for a short while before cutting off to the left down the bridleway, although we waited at the road junction for a short while to greet the 3* riders who were slogging up the hill. From there we made our way to the monument before cutting back to the B4494 for a while, then cut off towards Farnborough Down and along the track to the A338. On the descent we had four deer running along side for about a 1/2km - quite a treat. On reaching the A338 we crossed and attempted to navigate the bridleway down to Fawley. Unfortunately this even more overgrown since the last time I tried it a few years ago, and we resorted to pushing our bikes down the adjacent field boundary. It's a shame, as it'd be a great little track were it not for the 350m of overgrowth. From Fawley we worked our way back to the Ridgeway along the bridleway where we had to contend with rain clouds and smoke clouds from nearby stubble burning. It only rained a few spots, and the smoke didn't blow over the track too much, so we avoided getting lung fulls of smoke. Then it was down Castle Hill into Letcombe Regis, then back to Grove via Wantage. | ||
