Excellent weather. Excellent company. Good to welcome a strong contingent from Reading CTC and some new faces. The Chiltern ascents in the first section were as challenging as ever: up and down! The Bix descent was used as an “up” by the off-road ride on Saturday – an indication of the state of the road surface! Jenner’s provided excellent refreshment, and we took a much-needed ice-cream stop in Theale. We upped the pace a little on the flatter, afternoon sections – despite a headwind - until the nasty rollers before Bradfield slowed the peloton. Some of us were hanging-on with gritted teeth on the switchbacks through Dark Lane before we reached the final swoop down Pangbourne hill. Thanks to the sweepers: Andy, Dave, Louis, Chris, Nick. | ||
