Description:Update 23 Jun: Currently expecting 20 riders from across the groups. Tea stop now confirmed as Wyatt's Garden Centre nr Great Rollright. To help with organisation, please let Steve know if you would like to join the ride by Friday.A chance to ride an imperial century (160km), starting at 8am from the Clover Place car park in Eynsham (Grid Ref SP432094) - Google Map. For this year's Century ride, we'll be heading northwards across the Cotswolds into the ironstone country of North Oxfordshire. We'll traverse the Banbury "bumps" into Warwickshire and drop into the Avon valley. Lunch will be taken at Charlecote, just over the road from the entrance to Charlecote Park (NT). There will be an option to ride past Wellesbourne airfield; the last Vulcan bomber is due to fly-past at some time during the day. After some very pleasant rolling countryside in the afternoon, the biggest climb of the day will bring us back up onto the Cotswold Escarpment, where we'll have a well earned rest over tea at Wyatts farm. The final quarter is predominantly downhill, interrupted by a steady haul up to Leafield, before returning to Eynsham via Delly End, North Lee and Freeland. Total distance 102 miles. This will be a led ride at a steady pace of 12-14 mph. Riders are welcome to join us for all or part of the ride (meeting us en route by prior arrangement), making your own century if you want to. Coffee at Cotefield Nurseries Cafe, Bodicote, nr Banbury (arr ~10:00am, 25 miles, SP467375) Lunch at the Bakehouse Cafe, Charlecote Garden Supplies, nr Wellesbourne (arr ~1:15pm, 54 miles, SP265563) Tea at Wyatt's Tea Room, Hill Barn Farm, nr Great Rollright (arr, ~4:15pm, 76 miles, SP313315) Estimated finish ~7:00 to 7:15pm Due to the popularity of this ride, we expect to split into 2 (or even 3) groups. To help with organisation, please let Steve know if you are planning to come by Friday 26 June, and if you would prefer to join a slightly slower group. |
