Tuesday Evening 3* Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Ursula Hallam |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. This ride will be at the LOW end of the grade but still within it. Easy does it this week! *** Slight change to the previously published ride. *** As the 2* and 3* groups have both been up Hackpen in the last couple of weeks, I have changed the start to take us up what is called Seven Acre Hill on my OS map. I don't recall ever having cycled up this one but I'm told it's quite nice so let's give it a whirl. It still takes us to the top of Hackpen, so we will continue down the other side returning via the delightful Seven Barrows and a flat stretch home. |

Riders:Adrian WestAntony Cockerill David Smith David Talboys John Talbot Ken Pelton Richard Saunders Ursula Hallam Riders = 8 Weather:Report:Ok, so not exactly the relaxed, genteel introduction to 3* riding that I had envisaged…With the winds gusting to 50mph and heavy showers predicted by the BBC, a surprising number of hardy regulars plus new guy Antony turned out, all looking (even more surprisingly to me) madly keen. Although I had uploaded a flatter, shorter backup route into the GPS, we decided to stick to Plan A. So we started with a tough outward journey into the wind along the spring line road. Showers threatened but simply turned into a wind-swept rainbow as we fought our way up Seven Acre hill and seriously battled the wind down the other side of Hackpen. Turning into Seven Barrows road, it all became suddenly more delightful! Swooping down Blowingstone, and crossing over to Uffington, Baulking and Goosey Lanes were heavenly with the wind behind us, which just left one last section into the wind at Denchworth to bring us back down to earth. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed it, so thanks for turning out. | ||
