Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A figure of eight ride to Pusey, using a little frequented bridleway (easy off-road track) through the Pusey estate. Out via Denchwoth and Charney Bassett to Pusey back via Gainfield, Charney Bassett, Lyford and Denchworth, a round trip of about 14 miles. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Report:A few spots of unforecast rain at the start didn't deter our small group of 6 riders and the conditions soon improved as we cycled out to Denchworth. The bridleway and estate road through Pusey used to be a regular route on Tuesday evenings (a decade or so ago), but fell out of favour with the rise of road bikes. However, it provides a welcome and quiet change for summer use, and is ideal for a slightly longer 1* evening ride. There is a short grassy stretch through a wood which is bumpy in places, and a short field crossing that is well trodden down. Apart from that it is all easy-going. And it was new to some of the group. On the return the temperature seemed to drop quite noticeably then as we came through Denchworth the sun descended below the clouds to light up the countryside in a warm yellow glow. With the setting sun behind us, we followed our very long shadows back into Grove with a rainbow ahead of us. Stunning. Thanks everyone for an enjoyable ride. | ||
