Description:A slight change of plan - a sociable ride to Childrey to visit the traditional village fete in the grounds of Childrey Manor (entrance opposite the playing fields on the road out towards Sparsholt). Cream teas and other refreshments will be available and we'll have a bit of time to have a look round and soak up the atmosphere. I understand there will be a small entry fee. Further details here:http://www.sparsholtandwestcot.org/content/childrey-fete-childrey-manor-saturday-18th-june-3-6pm We'll make a loop through the Vale visiting the pretty villages of Denchworth, Lyford, Charney Bassett and Goosey. After a short stretch of the A417 to Challow Station, we'll have a gentle climb up to Childrey before our break. We'll return via the bridleway to East Challow with lovely views across the Vale, then through Wantage "the back way". Nearly 16 miles round trip. The ride will be particulary suited to those who would like to build up to the Betjeman Ride in early July. In particular, there are short-cut options back to Grove from Charney and Goosey (but without cream tea), if anyone would like a shorter ride. |
