10 Mile Club 1* | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. A flat ride into the vale this evening ride visiting West Hanney and Lyford , with the option of an extra loop to Charney Bassett if the weather is clement and the group is doing well. A round trip of 9 (or 11) miles. If possible, we'll stop to visit West Hanney church. |

A warm welcome to Jules on her first ride with the club and welcome back to Alvaro and to Carin on their first rides of the season.I do love riding through the lanes of the vale at this time of year when the verges are brimming and there are lots of flowers to enjoy. An easy ride is the perfect way to take it all in. We stopped in West Hanney and found that the church was open, so we went in to have a look around. One thing that Alvaro noticed was the extraordinary longevity of some of the previous inhabitants as recorded on one of the memorials in the nave. We continued on to Lyford, where we stopped by the almshouses, and then again in Denchworth to admire the climbing roses on the two thatched cottages by the T-junction (or at least I did, while everyone else was deep in chatter!). We were back in Grove at 8pm with everyone looking forward to the next ride. See you all soon. | ||
