10 Mile Club 1* | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. This week, out via Charlton - Route 44 to Betterton & Lockinge, before curling up over the hill and down to Ardington (can do the hill twice if a nice evening). Then back via Lains Barn.Distance of about 9 miles (or 13 if do the hill twice) Apologies for lateness of putting the route on the website, as have been away. |

Unfortunately, we lost Lorraine (and Nick) shortly after the start - Lorraine with her new tricycle - and still "bedding in". So they went on their way to do their separate ride. Then, before we left Wantage , Ellie was not too comfortable so she and Jo turned back. The rest of us ambled on at gentle-ish pace, taking in the views - stopping regularly for water. A nice relaxed break by Best Mate in Lockinge, before moving on to tackle THE hill of the ride. A short sharp climb rewarded by lovely views at the top, before we enjoyed a nice long descent - in two stages - into Ardington. Option was given to curl round and do the hill and descent again, but the overall consensus opted for skipping this. Well it was warm and we did have one more climb anyway up to the A417!. This climb was tackled well and we all enjoyed the descent past Lains Barn on the way back to Grove. Pity, given the turn out, that the Tuesday rides will shortly be ending for the season. Let there be great turn outs for the Saturday 1*s from September. Thanks all for a lovely evening. | ||
