CANCELLED - Vale of Belvoir 3*
Leader:
John Talbot
Start Time:
9:00 am
Start Location:
Rutland Water Park
Description:
No interest in this ride so I'm cancelling so I can make other plans for the weekend.

I'm planning an away ride to the very picturesque Vale of Belvoir (pronounced Beaver) in Leicestershire.

The ride starts from The Beach car park at Rutland Water Park (LE15 8QL), Pay and Display £6 for over 3 hours.

We travel in a clockwise route via Oakham, county town of Rutland, and Melton Mowbray, pork pies, to our first stop at the Old Brickyard Tea Garden near Scalfold (40km).

Following refreshments we will travel north past the railway test centre at Old Dalby and past the headquarters of the British Geological Survey in Keyworth.

We turn to the east into the picturesque Vale of Belvoir proper where we will take lunch at the On The Sands café in Long Clawson (83km).

Shortly after lunch we climb Terrace Hill (#29 in 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs) and get to Belvoir and it's famous citadel.

After Belvoir we head south through the Vale and small villages back to Rutland Water where refreshments at one of the lakeside kiosks can be obtained.

The ride is nearly 140km and rolling rather than madly hilly and nearly entirely on small lanes. A couple of short sections of cycle track but nothing that any bike can't handle.

Pre-registration of interest in this ride is essential. It won't go ahead without support and I need to know numbers in advance.
