Sunday Ride to Cycling Picnic at Standlake | 2* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A ride at standard 2* pace to Standlake to join the CTC Oxfordshire Picnic and Treasure Hunt, then returning to Grove afterwards. A flat ride with only one notable hill on the way home. We'll head out via the delightful lane from Hatford past the Hideaway and drop into the Thames Valley on the great long descent from Littleworth. After crossing the Thames at Radcot bridge, we'll continue through Clanfield then turn eastwards to Bampton, Cote, Shifford and Standlake (to arrive 12:30-1pm) Possible coffee stop in Bampton depending on how the mood takes us. I'll be aiming to cycle back by the direct route after completing the Treasure Hunt around 4pm. All welcome to join for some or part of the ride. Please bring a picnic if coming to Standlake and will be useful to have a pen for the Treasure Hunt. |

Report:With quite a few people away, I was the only taker for the ride out to Standlake and I chose to delay my start and take a shorter more direct route via Buckland and Aston. I arrived at Standlake just on 12:30 to find about a dozen riders sitting on the terrace in the sunshine including the Oxford group and 3 riders from the morning ride. 2 more turned up for coffee later.Neil had done an excellent job in getting the hall ready (complete with Cycling Uk banners and flags by the gateway) and there were plenty of snacks to eat. So disappointing not to have attracted more. Good to catch up with Neil - hope to see you back on your bike soon. | ||
