Report:Louis and I were discussing the advisability of carrying a tyre boot patch while waiting for the start. Prescient. The Pethybridges turned up at 8.59 having realized they had parked in the wrong place. I always find the first climb out of Pangbourne murderous with cold legs. After that, the remaining climbs were tackled in style, although the roads were filthy after heavy rain. We had a minor altercation with a resident who insisted that we shouldn't be riding down the lane from Bix because it was access only. Rubbish. My nemesis was the descent into Marlow were I had a rear tyre blow-out - second time this has happened to me here. There was a split in the tyre the size of a fingertip which Richard expertly patched with a cereal bar wrapper, no rubber being available. Having just paid for four new car tyres last week, I was not amused. After a good lunch at Jenner's we hit the flatlands west of Maidenhead. I had a second puncture and Louis joined in the fun with a flat of his own. To everyone's amazement, we got back to Pangbourne without seeing any rain. Chapeau to Louis for cycling to the start from Wantage. | ||

Great ride, thank you chaps as the punctures gave me breathers. Really enjoyed the ride and the fact we stayed dry |
