Report:After all the recent rain, what better time (?) to refresh our memories of the bridleways and tracks of the Vale !! Pat (not one to be put off by a little water) took us to Faringdon by way of the Grove to Denchworth bridle(water?)way, Charney Bassett-Stanford and then from A417 to Sandhills. For the return we cycled out to Great Coxwell on the Coleshill Road and took the Darcy Dalton Way down to the A417 (good enough for a road bike) and then on to Longcot (not). From Fernham we cut across the fields until we reached the River Ock, 30 yards before the footbridge over it! There was no way round but through. And so we waded in up to our knees. (Neil, where were you!) One good way of cleaning a mud-encrusted bike. Not content, Pat led us from Baulking to Kingston-Lisle along the rail-side b'way as well. By now it was dark and with minimal lighting Nick, Martin and I just about negotiated the lanes from Westcot to Challow and then home while Pat headed up Blowingstone.Steve S. | ||
