My original plan was to go up Hackpen Hill but I decided that it may be better to stay closer to home so we could short cut into Charney Bassett if the heavens should decide to open on us. So the ride eventually went around Grove, across the West of Wantage and then we turned up the B4507. A nice fast ride down Silver Lane, left up the A417 and then right towards Denchworth. Just before Denchworth we turned left and then right at the T junction with a loop up around Lyford before our arrival at The Chequers in Charney Bassett. Steve S arrived on his bike a little later as did Dave Charlton. The weather had remained dry and by the time we finally cycled home it was a lovely evening.Unfortunately although we had booked a table, the pub was very busy and the kitchen was obviously under some pressure! I gather it is also under new ownership. Having ordered our meal at 20h00 it was well after 21h30 by the time it had arrived. Steve S was very resourceful and spoke to the management and it was decided that we would get pudding for free because of the long wait. Those that did not have pudding ended up with a reduction on their main meal. The food when it did arrive was pretty good, but the wait certainly would put me off trying it again for some time.
