Few club regulars, so we kept together as far as possible with Diane sweeping (even though she didn't recognise all the route).Out through Denchworth and on to the A338 where we turned left and then right into West Challow. The metalled bridleway up to Childrey was new to many and once in the village we turned off on the bridleway back to East Challow. Stopped after Silver Lane to admire the view across the Vale lit up by the low sun. In East Challow we climbed up to the B-road then enjoyed our first descent down into Wantage. A brief rest before and after the traffic lights on the A338 and then right into Icknield lane and around Springfield Road and Larkhill to route 44. By now it was darkening and the temperature was dropping under a clear sky. However, as it was clear decided that it was ok to continue planned route as enough people had lights. Climbed up to Betterton and up onto the Ardington road. Stopped at the top of the hill just as the sun was setting behind the trees. Tops were zipped up for a fast and cold descent into the village. the climb to the A417 warmed us up and then it was another cold descent into the Vale past Lains Barn. As we came out of the trees it was cold and mist was rising from the fields with distance clouds fringed in orange - wow. Back to Millbrook Sq at 8:10 after a most enjoyable ride. Steve S. | ||
