Riders:David JacksonGerry Jones John Tranter Lizzie Hardingham Rob Martin Roger Postbeschild Stephanie Haddrell Riders = 7 Report:A lovely bright morning for a ride with a lovely group. We headed out as planned via the Letcombes and rested up at the top of Holbourn Hill before tackling Hackpen with a head on wind. John had been having a few problems with his bike and unfortunately had a major mechanical problem half way up, which cut his ride short. Thankfully Roger was on his electric bike and kindly went back down to assist John to be able to return home. Great job Roger! The wind at the top of the hill was arctic and we were all glad to be back peddling again although suprised that we indeed did have to peddle the long sweep down into Lambourn. We had decided that an early coffee was in order and so we made a minor amendment to the route going to Precilla's Kitchen in East Garston for coffee, bacon rolls, and brownies. We then headed off to Welford and captured the beautiful display of snowdrops as we rode past. On to Boxford, and as we turned to head towards home having the wind behind us was a welcome change! We went along some great country roads via Brightwalton and enjoyed the respite as we rolled down the hill towards Lilley and joined the B4494. We paused at Saddleback to admire the Deeor enjoying the sunshine on the Hill and continued our way along the main road back to Wantage. The descent from Chain Hill was thrilling although the cross wind was quite strong. After a brief stop at the bottom we bid our farewell to Gerry and made our way back along the cycle path to Grove. Thanks for great company, patience and teamwork in the face of some technical hitches. Special mention to Roger for his assistance- Thank you and to Rob for buying the refreshments to Fuel our journey on. | ||
