Riders:Angela SandersDavid Bridge Geoff Neill Henk Altmann (deceased) Kevin Fairs Neil Warner Nick Dunton Sorrel Williams Stephen Quartermain Steve Sanders Steve Swanton Tom Millar Riders = 12 Report:An eventful ride of about 50 km covering a circular route from Grove via Wantage, Letcombe Regis, Court Hill, A338, Chaddleworth, southern loop around Leckhampstead, Peasemore, Stanmore, West Ilsley, Farnborough, B4494, tea at Henk's house in Wantage, back to Grove. Rain at the beginning threatened to lead to an early curtailment of the ride but conditions soon improved to a very enjoyable level for early January. Incidents started along the back of Grove with a multi-cycle collision leading to the loss of Geoff, Kevin and Tom from the group.Thereafter a frequent topic of coversation was the hilliness of the course, attracting mostly favourable comment. A fair amount of time was lost soon after West Ilsley during a pucture repair by an uncooperative replacement inner tube which decided to shed its complete valve assembly during the initial inflation. The whole exercise had to be repeated. The downhill run back to Wantage saw a bit more rain but the homemade tea waiting at the end appeared to be adequate compensation. Henk Altmann | ||
