Description:Regular Saturday afternoon ride of 60-70km with tea stop.64km or 40 miles in "old money" route, heading North into the Thames Valley. The route will be as follows: Denchworth, Charney Basset, Longworth, Appleton, Eaton, Cumnor, Farmoor, Swinford, Sutton, Hardwick, Yelford, Aston, Bampton, Buckland, Charney Bassett and back to Grove via Denchworth. Riders:Chris WaltersDean Douglas Ginny Henderson Henk Altmann (deceased) Maurice Bawden Stephen Quartermain Riders = 6 Report:Weather: Overcast, rainingThe ride started off just after 1pm from Grove. Fairly low number of riders but the weather forecast was not particulary good. Ginny had phoned me earlier that day to say that she would meet up with ride part way along. The route headed north towards Southmoor and we crossed the A420 by using the footbridge off Beggars lane. The ride was relatively flat but according to Chris W's computer we gained reasonable height over the distance from Grove. We had a nice descent from Cumnor past the resevoir and then followed the B-road to Hardwick. We met up with Ginny were the B-road crosses the A415. There seemed to be some sort of time trial event going on here. So far the weather had been ok with no rain but it started to spit a bit as we came into Yelford and onwards to our coffee stop at Bampton. After coffee the weather had definitely taken a turn for the worse and we all had to don rainwear. The hill up to Buckland felt quite tough especially being so soon after a cafe stop. It continued to rain most of the way back and get a bit heavier as we came into Denchworth. We arrived back before my estimated time of 5pm. and me Philip at the finish on his new Brompton. All in all a good ride with the weather being better than expected. Steve Q Ride route and information here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/745544 | ||
