Description:A 60-mile all-day 2* ride to Marlborough as a further step up towards the century ride at the end of June (or for those who just fancy a longer ride at a 2* pace). I've now updated the route.We'll cross the Downs to Lambourn and descend the Lambourn valley to East Garston where we will have a relatively early refreshment stop at Priscilla's Kitchen. We'll continue to Welford, cross over into the Kennett valley via Wickham then take some winding small lanes through to Chilton Foliat, passing the charming estate village of Leverton en route. We'll continue through Ramsbury to Marlborough for lunch at Eliane's. After lunch, we'll recross the Downs the easy way, along the Ogbourne valley using the Marlborough to Chiseldon railway path (NCN422), a good grit track, then ride along the foot of the Downs to Woolstone and back through the vale. Potential tea stop in Ashbury if we need it on the way home. Round trip of 61 miles (99km) with about 2600 feet (790m) of climbing taken at a steady 2* pace. Please let me know if you are planning to come. All day ride (80+ km / 50+ miles), with a lunch stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). |

Report:A long but rewarding day in the saddle through glorious scenery and following some lovely lanes less-travelled south of the Downs. Tough at times due to the westerly headwind but a great tailwind home across the Vale. The ride distance is formally recorded as 99.46km but we had all covered 100km by the time we'd reached home. Congratulations to Lorna on her longest ever ride!Fuller report and some pics to come. | ||
